In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations are made for his children's college fund. You can donate on GoFundMe.

Coach Banks was born in 1967. He was raised in Hayward, California and attended both Tennyson and Moreau High Schools in the mid-1980s.

Coach Banks was an all-around athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball, but it was his success on the gridiron that led him to be the most highly recruited running back to ever come out of the East Bay. After turning down offers to Miami and Nebraska, he decided on accepting a full-scholarship to play football at Notre Dame. At Notre Dame, Mr. Banks started at fullback from 1986-1989. However, during his senior year, a knee injury derailed his football career and he was unable to pursue his NFL dreams. Coach Banks concentrated on his education and graduated from Notre Dame in 1990, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He was able to work for the NFL players' association, serving as a regional director for 5 years in the 1990s. Braxston Banks returned to his hometown of Hayward and started a Recycled Materials Brokerage Firm, where he worked with local school districts teaching them to "turn trash into cash." Mr. Banks then decided to enter education, where he served as a substitute teacher and a football coach. He has taught at every junior high and high school in our district, leaving a friendly and positive impression on everyone he came in contact with. His big smile, firm handshake and sincere kindness will never be forgotten.

At the 3rd Annual Art & Auction Show, students from Mr. Mielke’s ceramic classes showed off their work at the Sun Gallery on E. Street. At the annual auction, Tennyson and Mt. Eden compete to see whose school can bring in more money. The prize: bragging rights and a trophy full of candy. This year, Tennyson beat Mt. Eden, bringing in $759 to $739. Over 150 people attended, including our superintendent, several school board members, and Mayor Barbara Halliday, all of whom are now proud owners of THS students’ work. The event was even featured in the SF Chronicle
